Parents & Grandparents Club

The migratory circumstances of the Venezuelan population have led us to create new situations that allow us to feel close to our compatriots, supporting each other, and sharing traditions and customs.

This is how the VCAC Parents and Grandparents Club arose. On March 19, 2017, the Venezuelan Canadian Association of Calgary launched this wonderful initiative in order to gather our older adults to share experiences that allow their members not to feel the loneliness or helplessness that could affect the spirit at any given time. That day the first meeting of a very special group invited to join the VCAC Parents and Grandparents Club was held. Invitees: parents and grandparents of the Venezuelan diaspora who emigrated to Canada starting in 2000.

Over time this project has been gradually growing and evolving, having more and more members, with the participation and mutual cooperation of grandparents, parents, and children. Members share experiences, affections, longings, which together make them feel in some way that despite being far from Venezuela, they
can still have their own space, where they could feel identified, welcomed and understood by their peers, and where they can speak in their native language (Spanish), and have that human affection and warm feeling of friendship which they are so used to share through social, recreational, educational and spiritual enrichment activities that make the Club, more than a meeting place, a way to continue growing and to feel active in this beautiful country that opened its doors to welcome them.

During 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, activities of all kinds have been carried out, with an average of three activities per month, where both leisure and entertainment, personal training and growth took place, through workshops, talks and seminars involving different areas and subjects, including historical and cultural knowledge of Canada.

We can proudly say that during this extraordinary time of pandemic, our activities have kept going on, on line, and the enthusiasm and joy of our people being able to continue sharing and having time with friends is our est reward.
From its very beginning, VCAC Parents and Grandparents Club also created 2 WhatsApp Chat groups:
Club de Padres y Abuelos Chat Group created to share ideas, messages, experiences, jokes, anecdotes, etc., among the members of the VCAC Parents and Grandparents Club.
