π¬ The magic of Venezuelan cinema comes to Calgary: an evening to be moved, reflect and celebrate our roots
There are stories that make us laugh. Others invite us to reflect. And some achieve both at the same time. This June 19th, Calgary will be the stage for a unique cultural experience where Venezuelan cinema will become a bridge to connect generations, awaken emotions, and strengthen the sense of community.
As part of the Venezuelan Culture Days 2026 (VCD 2026), the Venezuelan Canadian Association of Calgary (VCAC) is honored to present a special evening dedicated to Venezuelan film talent, with the screening of two films that have left their mark both within and outside of Venezuela.
An open invitation to Venezuelans, friends of our culture, and lovers of good cinema.
π»πͺ An evening to reconnect through film
Cinema has the power to transport us to other worlds, remind us who we are, and allow us to see life from new perspectives. In this edition of Venezuelan Culture Days, we want to celebrate precisely that: our stories, our identity, and the immense talent of Venezuelans.
Get ready to enjoy two extraordinary productions that represent different generations, emotions, and ways of telling stories.
π First film: Caimanes de la Galaxia (Alligators of the Galaxy)
An adventure full of imagination, humor, and heart.
"Caimanes de la Galaxia" takes us on a heartwarming journey where friendship, growth, and courage take center stage. Through a fresh and fun narrative, this Venezuelan production combines elements of science fiction with everyday situations that resonate with both children and adults.
It's an ideal film to enjoy with the family, reminding us that the biggest dreams begin when we believe in ourselves and in those who accompany us on the journey.
Why watch it?
β¨ Fun for all ages.
β¨ A story about friendship and camaraderie.
β¨ Intelligent and moving humor.
β¨ A showcase of contemporary Venezuelan creative talent.
ποΈ Second film: Bad Hair
A profoundly human work that has captivated international audiences.
Directed by Mariana RondΓ³n, Bad Hair is a moving film that explores universal themes such as identity, acceptance, and the need to find our place in the world.
The story follows Junior, a nine-year-old boy who dreams of straightening his hair to look good in his school photograph. What seems like an innocent wish triggers family tensions and social questions that invite the viewer to reflect on prejudice, expectations, and unconditional love.
Award-winning and internationally acclaimed, this Venezuelan production stands out for its sensitivity, honesty, and powerful narrative.
Why watch it?
β¨ An authentic and deeply moving story.
β¨ It reflects on identity and acceptance.
β¨ Internationally recognized Venezuelan cinema.
β¨ A cinematic experience that leaves a lasting impression.
β€οΈ More than a movie screening: a celebration of our culture
This evening represents much more than watching two films.
It's an opportunity to come together as a community, share our traditions, support Venezuelan art, and pass on to new generations the rich culture that defines us.
Whether you're Venezuelan, Canadian, or simply someone passionate about discovering new stories, this night is for you.
Come with your family, your friends, or even alone; you'll leave with unforgettable emotions, conversations, and memories.
